Free · MIT open source · runs the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs

Claude Code & Codex.
From your phone. No babysitting.

A web UI for the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs: your agents keep working after a usage limit, review each other, and don't lose replies when the server restarts. Run several projects in one window, from any browser — including your phone. Free, open source under MIT. Also works from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the rest of the CIS without a VPN.

Why not just use Claude Code? →

The honest answer to the obvious question

Why, if you already have Claude Code and Codex?

Short version: Aura doesn't replace them and doesn't make the model smarter. It removes the friction around the agent — usage limits, hangs, restarts, being away from your laptop — and adds a second opinion from a different model.

Aura doesn't replace them

  • It runs the official claude / codex CLI unchanged: your CLAUDE.md, skills, MCP servers and chosen model work exactly as they do now.
  • No hidden prompts injected by default — the knowledge base loads only when you ask for it.
  • It doesn't rewrite the start of your prompt: our prompt-cache audit shows a 97.5% cache hit rate.
  • Close the tab and it's the same Claude you have in the terminal. No lock-in: uninstall Aura and your Claude Code setup is untouched.

What Aura does not do

  • It doesn't make the model smarter. Same Claude, same Codex.
  • It doesn't come with a subscription — it runs on your own Claude or Codex plan.
  • It's not a magic button. It's an interface and a safety net around the agent, not a new agent.

Three concrete jobs

01
In a bare terminalYou hit the 5-hour usage limit at night. The agent sits idle until morning, when you type "continue".
With AuraIt picks the work back up on its own, roughly 1–2 minutes after the limit resets.
Real production log, 2026-10-16: limit hit at 20:57, auto-continued at 22:01 — no human involved.
02
In a bare terminalThe agent confidently writes a bug and doesn't notice. Catching it is your job.
With AuraA second model reviews every step (Council Mode): Codex reviews Claude, and vice versa.
In a single day on our own codebase, two different models found 12 real bugs, including a token-leak path. And they found different bugs.
Council Mode: the main agent chat on the left, the observer panel on the right with NOTE and INFO findings from a second model
Council Mode: on the right, a second model that checks every step (this screenshot shows a Claude + Claude pair; Claude + Codex works too)
03
In a bare terminalSeveral projects in several terminal windows; a server restart or a hang loses the reply; step away from the laptop and the work stops.
With AuraAll sessions in one window, phone included. After a server restart sessions come back on their own, and replies are no longer lost when something hangs.
How it works is public: session-lifecycle.md on GitHub →
Coming soon
Video: "3 jobs over a coffee", 2–3 minutes. Not recorded yet — we'd rather say so. It will show exactly the three scenarios above on a real project:
  1. limit hit at night → work already resumed by morning;
  2. Codex catches a Claude bug before the commit;
  3. server restart → sessions still there, all visible from a phone.

"Easier to build my own?"

Honestly — yes, you can. Aura is what you'd end up with after about three months. We've already stepped on the rakes: lost replies, hangs, usage limits, restarts.

It's MIT — take just the methodology (skills, Council, knowledge base) or the whole thing. View the code →

Try it — no sign-up

No account, no forms. You need Bun and a logged-in claude or codex:

$ bunx aura-companion

Runs on your own Claude / Codex subscription. Nothing is installed globally; data lives in ~/.companion and is removed with one command: rm -rf ~/.companion.

Built on Aura Companion

Real projects — already live

Aura Companion isn't only a developer tool — it can be the foundation for whole platforms. Here's a live example of what's been built on top of it.

Flagship case

Razumai.space

A system of several dozen advisors for life and self-discovery — from psychology and relationships to business, finance and parenting. A whole platform for meaningful conversations, in Russian.

At its centre is MetaPersonaGPT, the most capable advisor in the set. From a single conversation it types a person across 27+ systems: MBTI, socionics, Big Five, Enneagram, psychosophy, temperaments, Jungian archetypes.

A live community has grown around Razumai — "Synergy of Mind" on Telegram.

Council Mode · BlockerBanner + ObserverPanel

Two AIs. One catches what
the other missed.

Aura's headline feature. The orchestrator does the work; the observer wakes up at every checkpoint, reads only the changed surface and pushes grounded findings back — as a banner in the chat you can't miss.

Left — main chat
Orchestrator
Claude Code or Codex does your task and writes checkpoints to .council/checkpoints/
↔
Right — observer panel
Observer
Reads the delta and returns grounded STOP / WARN / NOTE / INFO findings, anchored to the changed surface.
STOP Vulnerability found in token handling — recommend holding the deploy until it's fixed
Council Mode components: an observer STOP banner with evidence and actions,
What it looks like in the UI: a STOP banner with evidence, observer states and the findings log (from Aura's UI component catalog)

Paired sessions in one click

  • claude + claude default — two Claude Code sessions in one workspace
  • claude + codex experimental — Claude orchestrates, Codex observes, for cross-model independence
  • Switch it on in the New Session dialog

UI components in the browser

  • BlockerBanner — latest STOP in the chat slot, JSX-escaped, dismissible
  • ObserverPanel — status pill sleeping / spawning / reviewing / blocker-found + collapsible log
  • ProviderBadges — asymmetric chips for mixed-provider pairs
  • Hotkeys ⌘⇧O and ⌘⇧B
A council of real engineers

Council Mode isn't a set of faceless tags: it seats 22 experts with real names (plus three role seats), each with a recognisable approach and a published school of thought. Carmack chairs the council rather than voting in it: his philosophy — simplicity over abstraction, profile before you optimise, fight bloat, ruthless technical clarity — is the synthesis filter and the arbiter between experts. That's deliberate: if Carmack sat as a member, arbitration would blur into advocacy.

Shipped · Opposing pairs

The council adds pairs of experts on the same domain with opposite philosophies, so the synthesis becomes a resolved argument rather than a list of opinions. Each sitting is staffed by an adaptive selection engine for the stack and task (a lean line-up by default), and the Carmack chair arbitrates based on the project's economics.

Roadmap status: v1 (production default) runs on 14 experts with domain tags. v2 is in active development on the feat/council-v2-pipeline branch — Phase 3α finishes enriching the reference docs, Phase 3β adds the pairs. Atomic-swap promotion in Phase 6. Opt in via /council-plan-v2, /council-review-v2. See the Expert Catalog v2 Roadmap →

Questions

What people usually ask

Why add a layer on top, when I can just use Claude Code and Codex?
If the terminal is enough for you, keep using the terminal — that's the honest answer. Aura helps when the friction around the agent gets in the way: work stalls on a usage limit overnight, a reply is lost when something hangs, the server restarts, you're away from your laptop, or you want a second model to check the code. Underneath it's the same official CLI. Three concrete jobs →
Wrappers and personal frameworks make agents worse. Isn't Aura the same?
A fair worry — plenty of wrappers rewrite the system prompt and break the model's behaviour. Aura runs the official claude and codex unchanged: your CLAUDE.md, skills, MCP servers and model stay as they are. There are no hidden prompts by default — the knowledge base loads only on request. Our prompt-cache audit shows a 97.5% cache hit rate, meaning we don't touch the start of your prompt. Anthropic's and OpenAI's own best practices apply exactly as in the terminal.
This sounds too good. What's the catch? Do I need to sign up?
There's no sign-up. To run it yourself: bunx aura-companion → localhost:3456; it uses your own Claude or Codex subscription and is removed with one command. No catch, but no miracles either: Aura doesn't make the model smarter and doesn't include a subscription. It resumes work after a limit, gets a second opinion from another model, and keeps your work across restarts. All the code is open under MIT — check it yourself.
Isn't it easier to tune Claude to my own taste?
Maybe — if you have the time. Aura is roughly what you'd have after three months: we've already hit the lost replies, hangs, usage limits and restarts. It's MIT, so you can lift just the methodology (skills, Council Mode, knowledge base) into your own setup, or take the whole thing.
I'm in Russia or the CIS. Do I need a VPN?
No. The site works directly from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other CIS countries. We run the infrastructure so access stays stable without workarounds.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. It's a non-profit project — no plans, no subscriptions. All the code is open under MIT; take it and use it. You still need your own Claude or Codex plan for the models themselves. If you'd like to support development, there are donation options below — entirely optional.
Can someone who doesn't code really use it?
Yes. You describe the task in plain words — say, "build me an expense tracker". Aura asks for the details and assembles a working solution. You don't need to know how to code.
How is this different from ChatGPT?
Aura isn't a single chat but a working environment for coding agents: 29 engineering skills, Council Mode for quality checks, and a self-learning knowledge base — on top of the real Claude Code and Codex.
What is MetaPersonaGPT?
The flagship advisor of Razumai.space — a separate, Russian-language platform built on Aura Companion. From one conversation it types you across 27+ psychological systems. Aura is the foundation; Razumai is an example of what you can build on it.
I'm a developer — can I run my own instance?
Yes. Take the code from GitHub under MIT and run your own instance, with no fees or limits. Claude can set it all up locally for you if you give it the repo link.
Is my data safe?
Sessions are stored encrypted. Voice data isn't used for training. You can delete your history in one click. The self-hosted version gives you full control over your data.
